LIVE 8 - MUSLIM 'LIVE 8' HAILED A MAJOR SUCCESS

The Muslim version of LIVE 8 has been praised as a success after more than 10,000 people turned out to support the event. The charity concert at London's Wembley arena on Sunday (21Oct07) featured some of the Islamic world's greatest stars including British singer Sami Yusuf and Texan country star Kareem Salama. The gig was organised to draw attention to the crisis in war-torn Darfur and aimed to raise $4 million (GBP2 million) to help people displaced in Western Sudan. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown broadcast a live video message lending his support to the cause. He told the crowds, "I want to thank all of you who have been active on this issue, from the artists and musicians to religious leaders from all communities who have been leading prayers and campaigning for the people of Darfur."
