MOVIE REVIEWS: OUR DAILY BREAD

Our Daily Bread, an Austrian documentary that has been lavished with unqualified praise by many critics, is continuing to get a slow roll-out -- and picking up new critical devotees. Writes Kenneth Turan in today's (Thursday) Los Angeles Times: "Our Daily Bread has an astounding eye for wonders and horrors, the awesome and the awful, for hidden sights, untold stories and key aspects of our world that we rarely get to see and might not necessarily want to. Once witnessed, however, these things cannot be forgotten." The film, which is shown without narration or subtitles, also won over Manohla Dargis of The New York Times, who recently wrote that it "can be extremely difficult to watch, but the film's formal elegance, moral underpinning and intellectually stimulating point of view also make it essential. You are what you eat; as it happens, you are also what you dare to watch."
