EDDIE MURPHY - MOVIE REVIEWS: MEET DAVE

It's hard to imagine any movie with a title like Meet Dave doing well at the box office, even a movie starring Eddie Murphy. But some critics suggest that the title tells it all. "The lackluster title hints at the dull, witless and hackneyed story," writes Claudia Puig in USA Today . Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post reacts similarly, calling the movie "the kind of bland, generic, high-concept midsummer comedy that drives a critic to the thesaurus in search of new ways to say 'vapid.'" Manohla Dargis in the New York Ties dismisses it as "the latest in a long line of disposable Eddie Murphy vehicles." But Linda Barnard in the Toronto Star concludes: "There's enough to like in this one to make it enjoyable, and there's an underlying message about the good side of human nature that is delivered along with the popcorn. Cheaper than extra butter and better for you, too."
