MONTY PYTHON - MONTY PYTHON STAR WAIVED RIGHTS TO SPAMALOT

The cast of MONTY PYTHON waived their rights to the stage adaptation of their 1975 movie MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL when ERIC IDLE first wrote SPAMALOT, because they didn't think the show would make any money. Spamalot has been a huge hit both on New York's Broadway and London's West End in recent years and boosted funnyman Idle's fortunes. Holy Grail star Carol Cleveland, who played Zoot and Dingo in the film, says, "They (John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam) originally waived their full royalties entitlement, wishing Eric well - they had no idea the show might become a hug money-spinner. "But then they get so much money from repeats of the Python series. As for me, the cheques keep coming, but I just wish I'd written some of the sketches. Then the money would be so much more."
