For centuries art lovers and experts alike attempted to unearth the identity of the enigmatic woman in the famous portrait and now students at Heidelberg University have done just that. They confirm the Mona Lisa is in fact Francesco del Giocondo after finding clues scribbled in the margins of a book penned by Da Vinci's friend Agostino Vespucci in 1503.
