HELEN MIRREN - MIRREN BRANDS AGEING MALE ACTORS 'GRUMPY OLD MEN'

DAME HELEN MIRREN has branded ageing Hollywood actors "grumpy old men" - as they can't cope with the lack of female attention as they get older. THE QUEEN actress also hit out at male stars who turn their hand to directing, adding they are merely trying to "regain control of their lives", as their can no longer be empowered by their good looks. She says, "A weird thing happens to male actors, especially movie stars, in my experience. "They become grumpy old men. A young male actor feels great - all the girls want him, he's a star. As actors get older that sense of not being in control of their destiny grates on them and they get grumpy. "They move into directing to try to feel a sense of control."
