Michael Moore is taking on the Bush administration again with a sequel to Fahrenheit 9/11, producers said at the Cannes Film Festival.

Overture Films and Paramount Vantage are financing and producing the film, and are at the festival looking for international buyers.

The filmmaker won the festival's Palme D'Or in 2004 with Fahrenheit 9/11, an indictment on George Bush's War on Terror, and may release his new film at next year's festival, according to Variety.

The sequel is said to pick up where the original film left off, looking at the fallout from the Iraq war, falling confidence in Bush and a stalling economy.

Vantage chief executive Nick Meyer told Variety: "Clearly, we have a movie of global appeal here. Michael Moore is a very talented filmmaker, and this is a branded property."

Overture chief operating officer Danny Rosett added: "He intends to examine how America's role in the world has changed over the last eight years."

Fahrenheit 9/11 grossed $119 million (£61 million) at the US box office, becoming the most commercially successful political documentary of all time.
