Manic Street Preachers guitarist Nicky Wire has laid into fellow V Festival headliners Snow Patrol, calling them "utterly deplorable".

The Manics will play the Channel 4 stage at V this weekend, but Wire is not planning on checking on Snow Patrol around their set.

In an interview with the NME, the guitarist said: "Snow Patrol is the biggest divide in Britain. They're probably the biggest band in Britain, but they're also the most hated.

"It's a desperate form of music, the endless repeated lines, over and over, the same … thing on and on and on.

"They're the great losers turned into the great winners, that's their redemption. I won't be watching them."

In terms of what to expect from the Manics' set at V, Wire said that due to the long touring schedule the band are in the middle of, they are keen to "think of something fresh to put on".

Other acts at this weekend's V Festival include the Killers, Kasabian, Babyshambles, Iggy and the Stooges and Jarvis Cocker.
