MADONNA - MADONNA WILL NOT FACE DUTCH PROSECUTION

MADONNA will not face prosecution for blasphemy in the Netherlands over imagery she used in two concerts in Amsterdam last year (SEP06). The HUNG UP star was seen to kneel and take off a crown of thorns against the backdrop of a crucifix, prompting calls from members of the Protestant SGP party for charges to be brought against her. But a spokesperson for Amsterdam's prosecutor's office says, "The pop singer Madonna will not be prosecuted for blasphemy and insulting faith. "The prosecutor's office believes that through her show, the singer on all the evidence tried to express her frustrations about certain situations in the world .. it is not a question of contempt for God. "Furthermore, Madonna did not discredit Christians as a group."
