LILY ALLEN BLAMES RECORD COMPANY TURMOIL FOR ALBUM DELAY

Lily Allen has cited the turbulent fortunes of her record label EMI as the reason for the lengthy delay for her second album.

The likes of Radiohead, Sir Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones have all quit the company in recent months, and some 2,000 staff were made redundant when private equity firm Terra Firma took over the label.

Only the sterling performance of Coldplay's new album Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends - which has sold more than 300,000 copies - has steered the label in the right direction.

Writing on her MySpace page, Allen said her album - the follow-up to 2006's Alright, Still - had "been finished for a while now" but admitted she did not "really know what's going on with it".

"The record industry is a very political place at the moment," the young star added.

"Lots of people have been fired or have taken redundancy recently as the company [EMI] was taken over.

"Many of these people were people assigned to my projects and now I don't quite know what's going on."

She continued: "I'm sure everyone will find their feet soon enough and I'll be able to put the album out soon."

The 22-year-old joked that the Olympic games and the new football season are "both far more entertaining anyway" than her new album.
