SNOW PATROL - LIGHTBODY: 'AMERICAN RADIO IS A GRAVEYARD FOR RECORDS'

SNOW PATROL frontman GARY LIGHTBODY has slammed US radio for continually playing outdated songs, instead of using the medium to promote new music. The Northern Irish rocker, who is currently enjoying success in America with the band's hit CHASING CARS, insists the nation needs to update its broadcasting choices - branding the current situation a "graveyard for records". He says, "You just have to turn the radio on there to know there's a problem. "There is literally hundreds of stations dedicated to playing Eighties rock such as POISON, HEART, WHITESNAKE, DEF LEPPARD. There is a serious problem. "If television is the new radio (GREY'S ANATOMY, THE OC) what's going to happen to radio? The radio, as I see it, is a preview device. A place to hear the records you may one day like to own one day soon. Not a graveyard for records you sold at the same car boot sale you sold your stonewashed denim jacket."

Who are these guys fooling. 80's rock is the best rock. Radio becomes
graveyard because of the 70's music they keep playing forever
Gary is so right about this. U.S. stations do play really old music all the
time. But, believe it or not, there is a reason for this. Our Congress has
nothing more important to worry about than whether our radio stations are
taking money for playing new songs. Congress has harrassed & investigated our
radio stations so much that they are afraid to play new music. It is so much
safer for them to play oldies so they do. Welcome to the U.S.A., Gary.
I love your music!!
