LIAM TO LEAD 'NEW BAND' AT SHOW

Oasis star Liam Gallagher will perform with a group of Manchester bass legends at a charity gig in Manchester next month.

The Sun reports that Manchester-based bass trio Freebass, which consists of New Order's Peter Hook, Mani from Primal Scream and Andy Rourke from Smiths, had asked the crooner to perform with them at the Manchester V Cancer charity.

An unnamed source told the paper, the fiery singer would join former Stone Roses vocalist Ian Brown on the show. The Verve, James and Happy Mondays are also scheduled to perform at the rock show in Manchester.

Freebass has been recording an album which features the singing talents of Primal Scream lead singer Bobby Gillespie and Charlatans star Tim Burgess. The performance on February 23rd will be their first as a group in public.

Speaking about the show, Freebass member Rourke said: "This year's gig is going to be talked about for years to come.
"We've got some of the biggest bands of the moment lined up as well as some legendary acts," he added.
