LEWIS WAS HUNGOVER FOR FIRST SPIELBERG MEETING

BAND OF BROTHERS star DAMIAN LEWIS still can't believe he landed the role of MAJOR RICHARD WINTERS in the epic World War Two drama - because he was hungover when he first auditioned for STEVEN SPIELBERG. The British actor was so excited to be in with a chance of meeting Spielberg in Los Angeles he went out celebrating with pals - and was still drunk when the movie mogul requested an early morning audience with him. Lewis recalls, "I got really drunk and stayed out all night. I got a call at 8am and was told that Steven Spielberg wanted to see me. "After drinking coffee after coffee and having three showers to sober up, I went into a slightly anxious and sweaty audition. But it all went well."
