LENNOX VOWS TO HELP AIDS SUFFERERS
ANNIE LENNOX has vowed to help slash the number of HIV and Aids sufferers - after witnessing first hand the tragic effects of the disease.
The former Eurythmics singer is an avid human rights campaigner and launched SING last year, a campaign to raise awareness and funds to support women and children living with HIV or Aids in South Africa.
An estimated 33.2 million people worldwide have the HIV virus, and Lennox is determined to reduce the amount of victims dying from the disease.
She says, "I have seen it for myself and it has changed my whole perspective. I've visited hospitals and schools in townships and in rural districts.
"I've seen the funeral tents, children's graveyards, coffins sold off the shelf in supermarkets; the skeletal, bedridden remains of men, women and children, glassy-eyed in the last stages before life's exit.
"As a woman and mother I have a profound sense of empathy and outrage about this and I have vowed to do whatever I can to help change an unacceptable situation."
