SPIKE LEE - LEE HONOURED FOR HURRICANE KATRINA FILM

Oscar-nominated director SPIKE LEE is to be honoured at the Silverdocs Film Festival for his documentary work, including the critically-acclaimed WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE - about the aftermath of 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
Lee will be a special guest at the Washington D.C. event, which takes place in June (08), and will screen excerpts from his films and discuss his work with attendees.
Organisers of the festival announced Lee had been selected for his re-telling of stories that "challenge America's consciousness of social injustice".
Among Lee's films that have been singled out for praise are the Peabody Award-winning When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts and the Oscar-nominated 4 Little Girls - about the Alabama church bombings in 1963.
The festival will be held from 16-23 June (08).
