LATE ACTRESS KERR'S JEWELS SELL FOR THOUSANDS

Jewellery belonging to the late film star DEBORAH KERR have sold for more than $50,000 (GBP33,600) at an auction in London.
The collection was sold on behalf of the Scottish born star's family and included a three-stone diamond engagement ring from Kerr's first marriage to Squadron Leader Anthony Bartley, which sold for GBP33,600.
Other items on sale included a gold and turquoise snake-like chain that fetched $8,500 (GBP5,760), while an amethyst necklace, 19th century diamond ring, and a pearl, emerald and diamond bracelet also sold for thousands.
Kerr starred in classic movies such as From Here to Eternity and The King and I, and earned six Academy Award nominations for Best Actress before passing away in October 2007 after battling Parkinson's disease.
