The Kooks and former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker will play to a select audience in a tiny Oxfam store in east London tonight.

As part of the month-long Oxjam festival, the Southampton indiekids will play in the charity's Dalston shop to an audience of just 100 competition winners.

And Jarvis Cocker – recently in charge of this year's Meltdown festival at the reopened Royal Festival Hall – will thrill those in attendance with a DJ set composed of records bought in Oxfam bargain bins.

Also set to play in the London charity shop this week are Hot Chip, the ever-quotable Jamelia and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, whose frontman Sam Duckworth told the Guardian of the importance of the Oxfam festival.

"It's a great idea to make people aware of the opportunities we have to buy second hand," he said. "It's important people know charity shops still exist and that rather than just selling their stuff on eBay they can take it to Oxfam."

Around 3,000 events are taking place across the country throughout October, with the charity hoping to raise £1 million.

Donated records and musical instruments will be auctioned off, as well as memorabilia donated by Sir Elton John, Corinne Bailey Rae and Goldfrapp.
