KINGS OF LEON have said they only decided to record a new album this year after they were offered a headline slot at Glastonbury.

The band's fourth album, ONLY BY THE NIGHT is scheduled for release in September.

However, frontman Caleb Folowill told the NME that that his band thought it best to have a record to promote after their festival appearance, rather than taking time off as originally planned.

"We were at the end of our tour and we were going to take a load of time off," he said.

"But then we got the call and we were like, 'F**k! We should probably be putting out a record.'"

He added that his band does not like being complacent while other bands enjoy their big breakthroughs.

"We're scared if we take too much time off we'll forget how to do it."

Elsewhere, the band have claimed that they felt "no pressure" while recording their much-anticipated fourth album, reports Digital Spy.
