KIDMAN: 'I'M NOT THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI'
NICOLE KIDMAN has ruled out a leading role in WONG KAR WAI's THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI because she doesn't want to be separated from her husband for months at a time. The actress was the favourite to land the lead in the remake of the classic Orson Welles espionage thriller, but she has ruled herself out of the picture because she doesn't like the idea of living in another country - as she has for other foreign films. She tells WENN, "I'm not willing to go and live in another country for a year. I'm just recently married so that's my priority. "So, I'm not going off to be doing The Lady Of Shanghai. It's not right for my life right now." But the Aussie Oscar winner still has some lofty ambitions: "I really would love to work with (Martin) Scorsese. I'd love him to construct a film around a woman. I still ask him all the time; because I'd be interested in seeing that movie. "I'd like to work with (Steven) Spielberg. I've always said I wanted to work with Steven and I've known him as a friend for a long time, so I would like to do that. "Internationally, if Wong Kar Wai would shoot something a little closer to home, then I would like to work with him as well."
