Kid Rock has been sentenced to 12 months probation and six hours of anger management classes after being arrested at a restaurant in October last year.

The singer, whose hit All Summer Long is riding high in the UK singles chart, has also been fined $1,000 (£502) and sentenced to 80 hours of community service for his role in a fight at a restaurant selling waffles in Atlanta, Georgia, the city's Journal Constitution website reports.

The singer entered the Waffle House restaurant after performing at a concert in the area and allegedly soon became involved in an altercation with another customer.

The scuffle apparently took place after a man, identified by the media as Harlem DeJon Akins, approached a woman in the Cowboy star's entourage and began speaking to her.

Soon afterwards Rock apparently intervened and a fight ensued which damaged property at the restaurant.

Rock, born Robert J Ritchie, pleaded no contest at a court in DeKalb county, Georgia, to one count of simple battery, while four other counts of battery were dropped.

In September 2007, Rock and Tommy Lee, both former husbands of Pamela Anderson, exchanged blows at the MTV video music awards. The former later said that he had hit Lee for disrespecting him.
