Former Scotland rugby union player Kenny Logan has become the ninth contestant to be voted off this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The celebrities had performed two dances each for the first time this series, but the rugby star and dance partner Ola Jordan found themselves at the foot of the judges' leaderboard with a combined score of 53 points from a possible 80.

And after performing a foxtrot in the dance-off with actress Letitia Dean and her partner Darren Bennett, Kenny and Ola failed to impress the judging panel, though Arlene Philips said she had "never had such a difficult choice".

But after criticising Letitia's dancing at the start of the show, Philips added: "I said spring in the step - and spring she did!"

Head judge Len Goodman added: "If I could have judged with my heart, Kenny, you would be back, but on that performance alone, [it's] Letitia and Darren."

A disappointed Kenny said afterwards that dance partner Ola had been "amazing".

"She's taken me from absolute disaster to somebody who can dance," he told presenters Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly.

Logan's wife Gabby was also a contestant on the show, but was voted off earlier in the series.

After actress and model Kelly Brook withdrew from the show following the death of her father, four couples remain in the show, with singer Alesha Dixon the favourite to win, ahead of actor Matt Di Angelo, Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones and former EastEnder Letitia.
