Justin Timberlake might need to make some room in his trophy cabinet after the singer heard yesterday (October 9th) that he is up for three American Music Awards.

The 26-year-old singer is in the running for best male artist and album (for FutureSex/LoveSounds) in the rock and pop category and best album in the Soul/Rhythm and Blues section.

Other big players include Linkin Park who are nominated for best album for Minutes To Midnight and Akon, who is contending with Timberlake in the best male artist in the Soul/Rhythm and Blues category.

Taking place on November 18th at the new Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, this year's event will be the awards ceremony's 35th, and comedian Jimmy Kimmel is set to host for the fourth time.

The nominations were announced at a press conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel and the awards will be chosen for the first time by online voting up until November 1st.
