JUNO SOUNDTRACK TOPS BILLBOARD HOT 100

The soundtrack to Oscar-nominated movie Juno has soared to the top of the US Billboard album chart.

Featuring the likes of Belle & Sebastian, Cat Power, the Kinks and Sonic Youth, the album's sale received a huge boost from the indie comedy's nominations for four Academy awards.

With the Moldy Peaches' Kimya Dawson the dominant force on the soundtrack, its indie-folk plays an integral part in the tale of teenager Juno's (Ellen Page) struggle with her unexpected pregnancy.

Page and her co-star Michael Cera, who plays the baby's father, also feature on the soundtrack, in an endearing cover of the Moldy Peaches' Anyone Else But You.

As well as being the first release by Rhino Records to top the US charts, it's the first soundtrack from an Academy award nominee to reach number one since Titanic in 1998.

Alicia Keys dropped to second spot this week, with 60,000 copies shifted according to Nielsen SoundScan, while Natasha Bedingfield illustrated her Stateside popularity with Pocketful of Sunshine entering the chart at number three.

The top five was completed by Mary J Blige's Growing Pains and In Rainbows by Radiohead.
