Soul sensation Joss Stone has complained that British fans have been rejecting her since her return to the UK.

The 20-year-old Devon girl - who hit the big time with her version of the White Stripes' Fell In Love With a Girl - has spent much of the last two years in the US working on her third album Introducing Joss Stone.

But after a cringeworthy appearance at this year's Brit Awards in which her earnest attempts to offer support to fellow pop star Robbie Williams were undermined by a ridiculous faux-American accent, Stone complained that her British fans have turned their backs on her.

Awards host Russell Brand had said after Stone's appearance he was "a bit worried about that poor cow" and the young singer has now asked her British fans: "Why don't you like me?

"I felt kind of sad about it actually," she told DJ Trevor Nelson in an interview on BBC 1Xtra.

"It's funny because the only country that hasn't liked [my album] is my own. It's just like, 'Well, thanks guys!'

"It's like coming home and having them be like, 'Go away, we don't like you'.

"It's the whole country and it's like they're mad at me for being in the US."

She added: "Maybe it's because I dye my hair, maybe because my accent is messed up. But I've got to let it go and get on with my music."
