JOSH HARTNETT TO SUE DAILY MIRROR OVER HOTEL SEX CLAIMS

The Daily Mirror newspaper is facing legal action from Josh Hartnett for alleging he had a "sexual dalliance" in the library of a London hotel.

The actor, whose run in a West End production of Rain Main is about to begin, plans to seek damages for defamation over the tabloid's story.

The Mirror had claimed the Pearl Harbor star was caught on CCTV having sex with a woman in the library of the Soho Hotel.

It also claimed hotel staff had seen the tryst and that the Hollywood star had received a verbal warning from hotel staff.

Hartnett's legal team said the allegations were "not only untrue but a complete fabrication" but also "defamatory and unsubstantiated".

And speaking on ITV1's GMTV, Hartnett called the story "rubbish".

"It's incredible the stories they [the British newspapers] come out with," he continued.

"In the States at least they have to make a call to a representative and try to make a reality out of the situation. Over here) they just make things up."

He added: "[The paper said] there was a rumour about a video. But how can you have a rumour about a video? It would be on the Internet [by] now."

Hartnett's Rain Man debut has been delayed for a week to allow for extra rehearsal time.

He will to play car dealer Charlie Babbitt, the role originated by Tom Cruise in the 1988 film, in a limited run of the play from September 19th.

However, the play is a week behind schedule, following the withdrawal of original director David Grindley, who pulled out for family reasons.
