JOEL: 'I'M NO AA ADVERTISEMENT'
Veteran star BILLY JOEL doesn't want to be held up as a "poster boy" for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) because he knows more about drinking than being sober. The UPTOWN GIRL singer checked into rehab last year (05) to beat his addiction to booze, but insists he never let his problem slide out of control. He says, "I've never been not fit or not healthy. I realised it was becoming a problem and I did something about it. In my business, it's sort of like getting your teeth cleaned. "You know, New York has a pub on every corner and it doesn't matter if you're a musician or you have a regular job; at the end of the day, everybody ends up at the pub, I keep telling people: 'Don't make me the poster boy for AA because I don't know a lot about sobriety, but I do know a lot about drinking."
