JOAN JETT - JOAN JETT ALMOST JOINED THE ARMY

Rocker JOAN JETT felt a special kinship when she recently visited US troops in Afghanistan, because she almost became one of them. The I LOVE ROCK 'N' ROLL chart-topper admits she almost joined the US Army when she quit her first band THE RUNAWAYS and felt for soldiers she met while performing in the Middle East. She says, "Those kids are just so great, and they're so far from home. "I'm also a person that thought about joining the military after the Runaways broke up, so that could be me over there. It makes me realise I'm one of them." As much as Jett enjoyed meeting US troops, she realised that, with her short, spiky blonde hair and provocative look, she was a sight to behold for Afghanis working at the military bases in Kandahar and Bagram. She recalls, "(They) were just looking at me - not even with hate, just sort of, like, 'If your boys weren't here with you, you'd be dead so fast. It was very strange. "I really wanted to go into the towns, but I knew I couldn't."
