JANET JACKSON - JANET JACKSON RECOVERING IN HOSPITAL

Janet Jackson's comeback tour came to a grinding halt last night after she collapsed on stage during a soundcheck.

The Control singer was preparing for her show in Montreal, Canada, when she was taken ill and rushed to hospital.

The Associated Press news agency quoted a statement released by her publicist saying Jackson "suddenly got ill" shortly before beginning her show at the Bell Center, which it is hoped will be rescheduled.

It is not yet clear what caused the illness. The 42-year-old is currently on her Rock Witchu tour, which features raunchy scenes of sadomasochism and has already been blighted by a previous dropout.

Her show in Detroit last Friday had to be scrapped because of "production constraints".

The North American tour is scheduled to continue until October 22nd, with stopovers in Boston, New York, Atlanta and Dallas.

Jackson achieved lasting notoriety when a "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl exposed her nipple in 2004.
