JACK BLACK TO RETURN TO CLASS FOR SCHOOL OF ROCK SEQUEL

Jack Black will return to the classroom for a sequel to School of Rock, it has been confirmed.

Paramount Pictures is developing a sequel to its 2003 hit, with Black, director Richard Linklater and producer Scott Rudin all attached to eturn.

And Mike White, who penned the screenplay for the musical comedy, will write the script for the follow-up, School of Rock 2: America Rocks.

Black was nominated for a Golden Globe and won a MTV Movie award for his role as aspiring rock star and substitute teacher Dewey Finn, who capitalises on his discovery of a class of musically-brilliant prep school children to enter a 'Battle of the Bands' contest.

And following the huge success of the first film, which cost just $30 million (£15 million) to make and grossed $131 million (£65 million) worldwide, Black revealed earlier this year he was keen to revisit the role.

"I'd really like to do it, the last one was great," he said while promoting Kung Fu Panda at the Cannes film festival.

"We are seriously thinking about it, there's already a script. In a few weeks we have to decide if we go through with the project or not."

And Paramount Pictures has evidently convinced the team to return to rock school with the sequel set to find Finn taking a group of summer school students on a roadtrip across America, discovering the history of rock, rap, blues and country, among other genres.

Black can next be seen alongside Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder, released on September 19th.
