HUDSON BLAMES BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR PEOPLE'S CHOICE LATE ARRIVAL

KATE HUDSON was a late arrival at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday (07Jan09) because she couldn't get away from a post-school birthday party she had planned for her son RYDER.
Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres had to take the stage at the Shrine Auditorium to take Hudson's place and hand out the night's first award, stating the actress was stuck in traffic.
Hudson later claimed the night's Favorite Leading Lady honour and publicly wished her son - who turned five the same day as the ceremony - a happy birthday.
Backstage, she apologised for her tardiness, explaining, "I'm one tired mum."
