HOFFMAN AND BLANCHETT TO DIRECT PLAYS IN AUSTRALIA

Oscar winners PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN and CATE BLANCHETT will both direct stage plays for the Sydney Theatre Company in Australia next year (07). Hoffman will direct the world premiere of RIFLEMIND, written by Australian Blanchett's husband ANDREW UPTON, while THE AVIATOR actress is lined up to direct DAVID HARROWER's BLACKBIRD, according to Variety. Hoffman's Riflemind will star THE MATRIX actor HUGO WEAVING. However, Blanchett will first make her directorial debut at the Sydney theatre this December (06) with a production of HAROLD PINTER's A KIND OF ALASKA.
