HEROES PRODUCERS SNUB IRISH ACTORS

HEROES bosses sparked upset by refusing to hire Irish actors to play Irishmen in the hit TV series - because they hated their accents. Actor Adrian Pasdar - who plays politician Nathan Petrelli in the sci-fi show - claims producers opted to hire Americans to play residents of County Cork because they preferred the sound of their voices, following a series of fruitless auditions with aspiring Irish screen stars. The 'Irish' actors were recruited for a scene where Nathan and his brother Peter - played by Milo Ventimiglia - end up in Cork. Pasdar says, "The irony is we had American guys playing the Irish guys in those episodes because the Irish actors who auditioned for the roles didn't sound Irish enough. "So the portrayal of the guys from Cork, I have to admit, was very interesting. So I don't know how much of it worked and how much of it didn't."

That Irish accents in Heroes are a joke, this coming from a very big Irish Heroes fan. I can definitely say that we all cringed watching those episodes and there were even discussions on local Irish radio stations about how bad the accents were. The reality being that the casting director obviously thinks Irish accents are those based on films like Far & Away. That even sounds ridiculous that the Irish didn't sound Irish enough?!
