ASCAP - GUITARIST BURTON DIES

Country guitarist BARRY 'BYRD' BURTON has died following a lengthy battle with leukaemia. He was 61. Burton passed away in a Nashville, Tennessee hospital on Monday (10Mar08). He is best known for his work with stars including Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Dan Fogelberg, Crystal Gale and The Oak Ridge Boys. Burton was also a member of The Amazing Rhythm Aces, who won a Grammy Award for their 1975 hit single Third Rate Romance. Over the course of his career, he won four American Society Of Composers, Authors And Publishers (ASCAP) Awards. A memorial service will be held in Hendersonville, Tennessee on Saturday (15Mar08).
