GREEN DAY - GREEN DAY UNVEIL SECRET IDENTITY
GREEN DAY have confessed they are behind new band THE FOXBORO HOT TUBS, following months of fan speculation.
Devotees of the punk rockers were suspicious when tracks sounding remarkably like the Basket Case hitmakers appeared online in December (07), but were credited to the new band.
It was suspected Green Day had released the songs - which sport a more 1960s sound - under a pseudonym, while working on their latest album.
Four months on, frontman Billie Armstrong has come forward and confessed he and his bandmates created The Foxboro Hot Tubs as a joint side project.
He tells MTV, "We think that the only similarity is that we are the same band. That is basically the only similarity... We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous, (and) after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings."
Armstrong is so pleased with the response, Green Day will be releasing the new tracks as a fully fledged album - under the new name.
He says, "The record goes up for sale any day. We hope people have a chance to pick up the soon to be released vinyl. If you want to buy it, buy it. If you
already have it, buy it anyway!"
