GREEN DAY - GREEN DAY STUN AMERICAN IDOL WITH LENNON COVER
GREEN DAY stunned America on the finale of talent show AMERICAN IDOL last night (23May07) with a performance of JOHN LENNON's WORKING CLASS HERO.
The punk trio's surprise appearance on the hit show was staged to promote a new album of Lennon covers, Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur.
The performance marked the first for any acts appearing on the charity album, which will help raise funds and awareness for Amnesty International's efforts for Darfur, Sudan.
Green Day singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong says his group chose to perform Working Class Hero on the album because "its themes of alienation, class, and social status really resonated with us."
The two-CD set, which also features Lennon covers from acts like Christina Aguilera, U2, Avril Lavigne, Snow Patrol, Lenny Kravitz and R.E.M, will be released in July (07).

Yeah they stunned America alright, it was awful. Maybe it was for a good cause
but no PUNK band as they claim to be and I am a major fan would ever do a cover
of a HIPPIE band like the Beatles. Half of their fan bsse wasnt even born when
that song came out.Trey tried to save the song, but to no avail, Jason White
looked bored out of his skull. Nobody wants to hear Green Day cover an obscure
John Lennon song. They want American Idiot! If Bille Joe wants to save Darfur,
he should donate some of his millions he has and really make a difference. And
I am a MAJOR Green Day fan. Punks(?)connectng with the Beatles? First time I've
heard of it.
Awful. absolutely awful. Bille Joe should give a million or two to Darfur
instead of being the first PUNK(?) band to cover a Beatles tune. Not punk at
all. And I love Green Day but it sucked.
