John Lennon's solo back catalogue is to come to Apple's iTunes store after an agreement was reached with the late singer's wife Yoko Ono.

Lennon's work had not appeared on iTunes before, but as from today the albums Lennon Legend and Acoustic will be available for purchase.

For a period of 30 days, exclusive video content will also be provided with the albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Sometime in New York City, Walls and Bridges and Milk and Honey.

Ono said: "John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners."

As is the case with EMI's music on iTunes, the tracks will be available on DRM-free format with higher quality sound.

Steve Jobs, chief executive of Apple, added: "John Lennon is one of the greatest artists of our time.

"We're thrilled to have his solo catalogue available on the iTunes store for the first time."

George Harrison is currently the only Beatle without his solo work online after Paul McCartney reached a similar deal earlier this year.

However, it seems the late Beatle's work may also soon arrive online - possibly paving the way for the hotly-awaited arrival of the entire Beatles collection.

Apple Inc - the computer firm - and Apples Corps - the Beatles' record label - have steadily reached the end of a lengthy dispute about the use of similar trademarks, particularly in the music business.
