Former US vice president AL GORE today (12MAR07) launched the UK version of his TV network Current, which he promises will "democratise" television. The network, which has been up and running in the US since July 2005, targets 18-34 year olds, screening short videos - called pods - many of which are submitted by viewers. Gore claims the channel - which now reaches 40 million homes in the US - allows the viewer to fully interact with TV. Speaking at the launch, the 59-year-old - who co-founded Current with JOEL HYATT - said the pair's vision was to "open up a global conversation" among Current's target audience. Gore insisted the network would not be a political tool and reinforced his decision not to run in next year's (08) presidential election, pledging his dedication to new projects. He said, "This is not going to be a political or ideological channel - it's more revolutionary than that."
