The actor Ray Liotta has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a crash at the weekend.

Liotta, who played real-life mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's epic film Goodfellas, crashed his car into two parked vehicles on Saturday night, Los Angeles police spokesman Mike Lopez said.

No one was hurt in the incident, after which Liotta was arrested on a misdemeanour charge.

He was released on bail and is now due to appear before court next month.

As well as Goodfellas, the 52-year-old actor appeared in the Hollywood films Field of Dreams, Hannibal and Blow. He is starring in Smokin' Aces and Wild Hogs this year.

In 2005 he was handed an Emmy award for outstanding guest actor in a drama series after he appeared in the hit TV series ER.

Liotta is not the only high-profile celebrity facing charges following after an incident while driving; on Friday last week reality TV star Nicole Richie was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs two months after she was caught by police driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles motorway.
