Organisers of the Glastonbury festival are launching a regular gig night allowing up-and-coming bands a shot at playing the famed music event.

The Holy Cow night will give new, unsigned acts a chance to show off their talents and earn a place on the bill for the legendary Somerset festival.

Envy Corps, Vampire Weekend and the Brightlights are to kick off Holy Cow with shows at the Social club in London tonight, with interested bands urged to contact organisers via the Holy Cow MySpace page.

Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury festival founder Michael Eavis, told the BBC the most impressive groups would be booked for a slot on one of the smaller stages at Glastonbury.

"As a festival, we would really like to lead the way in new music," she commented. "We're really after unsigned acts and finding the best new acts from all corners of the country and beyond.

"The aim is to collect as many new bands as possible throughout the year and build up a strong roster of new acts," she added.

The sky is apparently the limit for Holy Cow attendees. She added: "We've had some brilliant debut sets throughout the years, where bands start at Glastonbury on a very small stage and end up playing the Pyramid in a few years."

Next year's Glastonbury festival takes place from June 27th to June 29th 2008.
