PRIMAL SCREAM frontman BOBBY GILLESPIE has paid tribute to the late LEE HAZLEWOOD, calling the late songwriter/producer a "last of a kind outsider hero". Hazlewood, who found fame penning Nancy Sinatra's 1966 hit These Boots Are Made For Walkin', passed away in Las Vegas on Saturday (04Aug07), aged 78. Gillespie tells NME.com, "He was a motherf**ker of a songwriter and a great producer too. A one of a kind/last of a kind outsider hero." British singer/songwriter Richard Hawley, who worked with Hazlewood, adds, "I don't think he realised how much he was respected and loved. I remember asking him about being made a major difference to a lot of people and he just couldn't get his head round it... (sic). "He was so many things; producer, writer, arranger, singer, a performer... That kind of artist, there aren't many of them left. Ironically, Lee Hazlewood was overlooked in his life but we'll desperately miss him a lot more than we realise."
