Hollywood actor MEL GIBSON suffers from manic depression, according to a leaked report.
An interview with the Australian star - who hit the headlines for using anti-Semitic language during a driving under the influence (DUI) arrest near his home in Malibu, California in 2006 - has surfaced which quotes the actor admitting he is a "manic depressive".
The documentary, filmed in 2002 by The Patriot star's old school friend Sally MCKenzie, is about Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art's acting class of 1977 - which Gibson attended. It's due to air on Australian TV network ABC2 on 25 May (08).
Gibson is reported to say, "I had really good highs but some very low lows. I found out recently I'm manic depressive."
His publicist was not immediately available for comment.

Hello, being a manic-depressive too for long years, already 10, in fact, I'm very much proud of Mr Mel Gibson who choose to make is illness public. It will be good for all people suffering unfortunatly for mental illness. We are not stupid, very creative, and usually very much able to manage with responsabilities of our daily life and to raise properly our own children. I hope that in future Mr Gibson will be able to do talks or actions to fight against the very false but common ideas about bipolar disorder and other mental illness!!! I thank him personnaly in the name of all the com- munity and I wish him sincerly to find very often middle-mood way to live into peace, and to be very very much happy in his personnal life with people who understand so well this disease. Thanh you Mr Gibson for us all and for me too because you give me more courage than ever to face the life. Stay, please, a courageous man. I'm proud of you
