ELBOW - GARVEY BLASTS MONEY-OBSESSED BANDS
ELBOW frontman GUY GARVEY has launched a scathing attack on fashion-conscious rock bands, accusing them of making music solely for the money. The British singer, whose band has always intentionally veered away from commercial appeal, insists he could never sacrifice his passion for art to churn out high-earning anthems. And Garvey is sick of the constant stream of trendy, commercial-friendly groups - because their contribution to the music industry is "s**t". He rants, "If we (Elbow) wanted to change what we are and make hits, we could do so very easily. But it drives me mad when a band compromises everything to sell records - they're wasting such an opportunity. "If you're going to wear skinny jeans, have s**t hair and write s**t songs you may as well be on a reality TV show, because you're putting fame before art."
