Nelly Furtado swept the board at the Juno awards this weekend, taking home five accolades including artist of the year.

Following her recent return to the top of both the UK and US charts, the 28-year-old singer hosted the annual event in her home country of Canada and also performed a medley of her hits.

She saw off competition in every category that she was nominated, winning album of the year (Loose), single of the year (Promiscuous featuring Timbaland), the Juno fan choice award, pop album of the year and artist of the year.

Furtado said that she was "happy" and "humbled" to be honoured at the awards.

Loose, which has produced the hits Promiscuous, Maneater and Say It Right, has been certified platinum in the US, UK and Australia, two-times platinum in Germany and Switzerland and three times platinum in Canada, where it was the highest-selling album of 2006.

Billy Talent, who performed at the event, went home with the rock album of the year and best group awards, while Jacksoul was honoured with the R'n'B/soul recording of the year prize.

Also performing to the 13,000-strong crowd at the ceremony, which was broadcast last night, were Patrick Watson, Three Days Grace and Hall of Fame recipient Bob Rock.
