JOHNNY CASH - FOUNDATIONS OF CASH HOME TO BE PRESERVED

The former home of legendary country singer Johnny Cash will have it foundations preserved as part of a new home after the original was destroyed by a fire.

Bee Gees singer Barry Gibb now owns the property and he said his family was "devastated" at the news that the home had burnt down last week.

Cash wrote a number of his early songs at the house and lived there with his wife from 1968 until they died in 2003.

In a statement regarding the future of the property, Gibb said he and his wife Linda would aim to rebuild.

"Linda and I have decided to build our own home on the higher ground surrounding the Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash home.

"The original foundations shall be kept intact and preserved for the people of Hendersonville and the people of Nashville."

Cash sold over 50 million albums and his songs include I Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Man in Black and the more recent American series of albums produced by Rick Rubin.

A biopic of Cash's life was released in 2005, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.
