JODIE FOSTER - FOSTER'S THE BRAVE ONE TOPS US CHARTS

Jodie Foster's new film The Brave One has debuted at number one at the US box office, according to Screen International.

The Death Wish-themed revenge thriller sees Foster play a bereaved radio DJ hunting down the people who left her husband for dead after a vicious attack.

The Brave One pushed 3:10 to Yuma into second place after taking $14 million (£7 million) during its opening weekend, while the Russell Crowe and Christian Bale-starring western had ticket sales of $9.2 million (£4.6 million).

Another new entry in the Hollywood top ten was comedy Mr Woodcock, which stars American Pie alumnus Seann William Scott and Billy Bob Thornton as the sadistic gym teacher married to his widowed mother (Susan Sarandon).

South Korean fantasy film D-Wars, reportedly the most expensive film in the country's history, entered the charts at four, while teen comedy Superbad went past the $110 million (£55 million) mark in fifth place.
