FARRAH FAWCETT - FAWCETT COULD 'GO BLIND'

FARRAH FAWCETT is preparing to undergo surgery on her eyes in a bid to stop her from going blind, according to a British newspaper. The former CHARLIE'S ANGELS star, who has had to undergo intense chemotherapy treatment for cancer, is reported to have been diagnosed with ptergium - a condition which causes a thickening of the outer coating of the eye and usually occurs in people who spend a lot of time in the sun. A friend tells The Sunday Express, "At the beginning of January, Farrah thought she was suffering from a mild bout of 'pink eye'. There was some minor irritation and she thought it would go away. "But her eyes became so full of gunk in the mornings and they were virtually sealed shut. Then she started getting blurred vision and finally excruciating, burning pain in her eyelids." Specialists in Los Angeles have told Fawcett to stay away from sunlight because the damage to her eyes was caused when her immune system was low following chemotherapy.

Go blind from a pterygium? I don't think so. They are usually removed pretty easily and without incident. At worst, if it beats up on the cornea too much, she MIGHT require a corneal transplant, but I serously don't believe she will go blind. Just my 2 cents from someone in the ophthalmology profession (no I am not a doctor, it's just my semi-educated opinion).

Farrah Fawcett was my absolute idol in the 1970's and I still think she is fabulous looking. I am always looking to see how she is getting on and I really hope she gets a break. Cancer is hard enough without worrying about her eyesight too. Good luck Farrah from a long admiring fan.
