RUPERT EVERETT - EVERETT AND FERRY FIGHT TO SAVE LONDON SQUARE

Actor RUPERT EVERETT and veteran singer BRYAN FERRY are campaigning against plans to build a four-lane carriageway through London's famous Sloane Square. The Save Sloane Square group is opposing the local council's GBP5.5 million ($10.6 million) scheme to carve the Chelsea, west London square in two to allow traffic to run through, rather than around it, saying the proposed carriageway would destroy the area's unique character. The group has already collected 3,700 signatures from objectors, enlisting support from a number of celebrities including Ferry and Everett. Ferry said, "Having lived in the area for years, I have great affection for Sloane Square. I think the square should be tidied up but essentially left as it is."
