DUFFY - DUFFY HITS BACK AT ESTELLE'S WHITE SOUL COMMENTS

U.K. singing sensation DUFFY has hit back at rival diva Estelle's comments stating white singers shouldn't sing soul music.
The Mercy star has defended her title as Britain's newest soul musician, insisting the colour of a singer's skin should be irrelevant if they are talented and passionate about their art.
Last month (Mar08), American Boy star Estelle stated Duffy and fellow soul singer Adele didn't represent "black music", claiming their music didn't "mean nothing to me as a black person".
But Duffy, who shot back to the top of the U.K. LP charts this week (Beg14Apr08) with her debut album Rockferry, believes it's her duty to bring nostalgic music back in to the mainstream.
She says, "If the talent and the desire is there, I don't really think it matters what colour you are.
"I don't wanna stand as a definition of soul music and I don't think I ever will but there is influence of that in my music.
"What you have to remember is a lot of kids don't know about the great 60s and 70s soul music. So all I can do is channel those influences and interpret it in a contemporary way."
