Britney Spears' shorn hair is up for sale for the princely sum of $1,000,000 (£512,000).

The owners of Esther's Haircutting Studio in Tarzana, California, are putting up the hair for sale after the celebrity's now infamous decision to go bald.

A visibly distressed Britney arrived at the salon last weekend, where camera crews caught the Oops I Did It Again star demanding staff cut her hair.

The hairdressers refused, but Britney promptly sheared her own hair with clippers and has since reportedly visited both rehab and a wig shop.

Now, a website set up after eBay was flooded with fake vendors claiming to have the singer's 'authentic' hair purports to be from the owners of the salon.

In a statement, the site insists it is "the only real listing" and is accompanied by photos of the shop and a request for anyone interested to pick up the hair from the salon itself.

"This is it, the opportunity of a lifetime," the site reads. "You can be the proud owner of Britney Spears' hair, extensions, the Omega clipper used to cut it all off and even the can of Red Bull she was drinking at the time."

The site organisers say they will donate a portion of the proceeds to charity and have also thrown in her blue Bic Lighter.

Since the incident Britney has been seen donning a platinum wig and continuing to party, as the Toxic singer continues through what has been a tumultuous period.

As well as having her second child, Britney has separated from husband Kevin Federline and struck up a new friendship with socialite Paris Hilton.
