DIETRICH'S FURY AT DUNAWAY REVEALED IN LETTER

A re-discovered letter from MARLENE DIETRICH exposes the Hollywood star's hidden fury at FAYE DUNAWAY - for her "shameful" portrayal of movie great JOAN CRAWFORD. The angry missive, written more than 25 years ago, accuses Dunaway of only starring in 1981 film Mommie Dearest to "pay her liquor bills". Dietrich's letter, which auctioned off at Christie's in London for $1500 (GBP750) on Wednesday (19Dec07), also lashes out at Crawford's adopted daughter, Christine, for writing the book on which the movie was based. The tome, painted a less than flattering portrait of the star - chronicling the abuse Christine allegedly suffered at the hands of her mother. Writing to her friend at Paramount Studios, Peter Bankers, Dietrich blasts, "Fay Dunaway (sic) should be ashamed of herself, but then she probably needed the money to pay her liquor bills." She adds, "I am shocked that Paramount bought that filthy book and made that frightful b*tch who wrote it (Christine Crawford) rich. "I did not know Joan Crawford, but nobody deserves that kind of slaughter."
